Dining Light

I'm not having success getting good pictures of the space with my phone. The dining space is directly opposite the kitchen.

We have a single pendant and a bunch of recessed cans in the area.

Main Bath

Got the privacy covering on the window - it turned out really nice - and the bathroom is still blindingly bright. Its' lovely, but these aren't very good pictures.

I was worried about the size of the mirror, but that turned out well too.

Just About Done (Kitchen)

So much has happened in the last week, I can't keep up with posts or pictures. Anyway, the house is more or less done. Carpet won't be installed for another week (at least) but that's really it.

Here are some finished kitchen pics. We really love the way it turned out.

Kitchen (Lights)

Our house is beginning to look like a home. I stopped by early this morning to drop off some stuff, and flipped on the kitchen puck lights.

Some pictures in early light:

A Lot is Happening

The floors are finally in, although they got covered up before I could get a good picture. We used reclaimed fir for the floors. I won't soon forget how the ever-present moisture almost torpedoed our project.

They were installed two weeks ago. I definitely breathed a lot easier after that.

Once the floors the done, things really started to pick up. The kitchen came in, the base board, window trim, and the stair container were all completed.

Painting started this week. We picked white (surprise!) for all the walls.

The Deck

Deck was all assembled last week. We chose tight knot cedar which ought to last about 15 years or so as long as we re apply protective coating every two years.

We're planning on using the left over material for plant containers.

Not really sure how we'll be using this space, but it looks and feels great. We have water and gas running up to it and a few overhanging trees. I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of time up there.

2nd Floor and Roof

1st Floor

Yikes, it's been a minute since the last post. Walls are primed and paneling on the downstairs "cube" is complete. The sub-floor is STILL too wet to install hardwood (salvaged doug fir). We moved it into house though so the moisture-content will match up. We're hoping it will all go in next week. Kitchen cabinets are being assembled off-site. The progress feels slow, but we're inching closer to the move-in date.

Interior Trim

For the first time since we started, I'm not going to the house everyday anymore. The pace of things has slowed down significantly, and it's too excruciating for me to take.

Next week, the panelling around the center container should go up, bath tile installation is scheduled to start tomorrow. Interior doors for the bedrooms have already been hung, so we are making some progress. Andrew (our builder) assures me that this is a tough time in any project. The slowdown is normal.

The floor is still a bit too moist to install the hardwood.

I've taken to day dreaming about and planning my garden. Looks like I'll have 120 sq. ft. on one side of the front yard, and possibly half that on the other (assuming I'm willing to plant some stuff in a light shade, since there's a tree there).

I think I'll get trough for the roof deck, and plant all my herbs up there.

Insulation & Drywall

...is complete.

We got blown in cellulose in the interior walls and spray foam in the roof.

The insulation made the house feel like a house more than anything else so far. It was pretty awesome going in there after that.

In Portland, It Rains and Rains

We're trying to dry out the interior before insulating. It's been raining all week, with no end in sight. There's a de-humidifier running, but we're getting hammered with rain. We'll see. Hopefully it can dry out enough to move forward.

Siding is up

Canopy

Made a lot of progress over the last two weeks. The canopy went in and got a coat of paint.

Some Progress

Window trim goes on next week. We're looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Inside, HVAC is about done, plumbing is half-way and electrical is ready to start. The progress is less visible, but we're definitely coming along.
